My Students

My students are freshmen (both honors and non-honors) level. They are experiencing high school for the first time and naturally curious. They inspire me each day to stretch myself and be the best teacher I can be for them. This year we are exploring the idea of Coming of Age which ties in perfectly with the novel To Kill a Mockingbird. I want them to understand themselves and the world around them more through the analysis of this memorable novel.

My Project

We plan to take a field trip to Monroeville in conjuntion with this unit in January. The students will pay for the trip, but I do not want to ask them to buy the book as well. We do not have enough for a class set at the school. Without the books, the trip/unit will be impossible. I have never taught this book, even though I have been teaching for over fifteen years and have read it once per year for the last two decades. I have always dreamed about teaching this classic work of literature, but I need books.
