My Students

My middle schoolers are all newcomers, meaning they are still learning English as a second language. I have a mix of students who are literate and have a solid background in their first language, and some who do not have literacy skills in either their first or second languages yet.

My students are excited to learn and want to do their best every day!

My project will enhance their lives for the better because it will give them literacy skills they'll use their entire lives.

My Project

My students need a reading material that's engaging, real world, diverse and accessible. Scholastic Magazines provides all of those things with the Scope magazine subscription. My middle school English language learners would be thrilled to have such a great resource at their fingertips. I would appreciate Scholastic's prepared lessons and activities to help teach my newcomers English and content area reading. Most of my students are already literate in their home language, and need to continue growing in literacy and learning English to catch up to their peers who are native speakers. The Scholastic Scope magazines would help us out tremendously!
