This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a low-income/high poverty school district. Unfortunately many of our students deal with struggles outside of school that no child should. Because of what they may experience, we try to make the gym a fun place where all students can succeed while enjoying themselves. Our goal is to not only help our students be physically fit but also put a smile on their faces.
We also house many special education students with disabilities and students with autism.
All students enjoy to move and want to learn how to live a healthy life. In both Health and Physical Education class, we stress the importance of finding a healthy diet and ways to get exercise when outside of school. Our facility is better than most; however, our equipment is old and there are no funds to purchase new items. To be the best that we can be for ALL our students, new and safe equipment is a must!
My Project
Every student enjoys using scooters. Typical students can work together during cooperative activities using scooters to get team from one end of the gym to the other. We also play tagging games on the scooters which help improve leg, arm and core strength depending how they choose to ride.
Scooters are also great for our special education population.
These students can focus on and improve balance and many can move from point A to point B on their own while on the scooter. This also helps with building Independence.
These scooters seen to be built well to accommodate all students grades pre k-5.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
