My students are flexible. Some are from higher income families, while others are from lower income families. In middle school, these differences in background are not as noticeable as in high school. After Hurricane Harvey struck our town, ALL of our students and staff's lives changed.
For most of the year, over fifty per cent of students and staff were displaced.
Some of these students were living in trailers, R.V.'s, hotels, etc... Some lost their homes, and watched as buildings were demolished. Many are still living in temporary quarters for the summer.
These students spent most of the year in Fema portable buildings, yet still brought their smiles to school with them, as well as their willingness to learn,
Colored pencils are used in all core classes as well as in art. They provide a nice touch for geography maps. They are also used in providing color for flags of other states and nations.
Glue sticks are indispensable in all classes for all kinds of projects, especially in art classes.
They will be used in math classes creating three dimensional kites.
Where would our classes be without scissors? Again, art class will rely heavily on them, as well as other classes. They go hand in hand with the glue sticks in creating three dimensional kites in our math classes.
