Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Science is everywhere in today's world. It is part of our daily lives, from gardening, to recycling, and comprehending the daily weather. Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science. ~Edwin Powell Hubble, The Nature of Science, 1958

My students come from a high poverty neighborhood with a very diverse range of home structures: nuclear, single parent, foster and migrant, to name a few.

My students love to be at school and enjoy learning, especially when the activities are hands-on. Many of my students are English Language Learners that attend a public school in the South Central Los Angeles area. They are always excited to experience any kind of technology that I'm able to bring to my class.

My Project

Advances in science are transforming our world at an incredible pace, and our children's future will surely be filled with leaps in technology we can only imagine. Being "science literate" will no longer be just an advantage, but an absolute necessity. We can't escape from the significance of science in our world. I like to have class pets such as newts, tree frogs, tadpoles and marine fish so I need an aqua timer to control the lightning, a thermometer for my reptiles, and we need a new naturalistic terrarium for our tree frogs. I will have pet monitors that will take care of class pets but we need these supplies. I also need a plant light house to plant flower seeds and observe the growing process of a plant. I will place the Robo TX explorer in a science center so individual students can build the robot. This robot I will use to promote science and technology in class. The tooth and mammal skull display will hep me to get my students excited about science. Get them curious!

I love those moments when students suddenly see something amazing, or grasp a concept, and their eyes light up.

Having these materials that I'm requesting will allow these moments to happen more frequently. I want my students to develop confidence to think for themselves, developing and testing new theories, which is our scientific culture.
