I have a very affectionate and caring group of students this year! They are such a blessing to my life.
My spunky second graders are very thoughtful and empathetic.
They love to greet me with a handshake, high five, fist bump, or hug each morning. My students are constantly praising, uplifting, and helping each other. Our classroom has a diverse group of learners but a whole lot of heart. When they see someone sitting alone at lunch or outside on the playground by themselves, they always find a way to make another student feel welcome and cared for. Many of my students have a love for learning and a desire to be at school!
Our campus was in the Hurricane Harvey area and many of our students suffered at our campus. Through this tragic event, our students, community, and school have pulled together to learn many new valuable lessons in helping others.
My Project
Please help us become scientists as we navigate through real life topics! For our weather unit, we are asking for a weather vane to measure wind, a rain gauge to measure precipitation, and a thermometer to check the temperature. Our second graders will predict and chart the weather in the spring semester. We are also needing stones for our rock unit. Students will observe and classify rocks based on physical properties. For our matter unit, students will use tops to predict and create a data chart of the different top spinning times and create testable vs. non-testable questions.
For our animal unit, we research the different type of animal skin body parts, and body coverings.
We are wanting the green mesh fabric to imitate amphibian skin, the peacock feathers and assorted feathers to represent birds, the faux fur pom poms for mammals, and the snake skin pieces for reptiles. The "What if You Had Animal..." Books are read alouds during this unit to create a connection to student life with animals.
The bubble and bee see through garden will help us in our plant unit. We will get hands on experience from seeing the parts of a plant as we grow different seeds. We are also asking for paint to help us create projects to last a lifetime. The students will get to use different mediums, including paper and paint. Lastly, we are asking for liquid motion bubble timers for our "safe place" for students to self-regulate feelings and strong emotions during the day.
