This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hands-on is what we all need to learn and have fun. Think about what science was like for you in elementary school, were you staring at a chalkboard and looking in textbooks. Was that fun and engaging? Insects, rocks and minerals, that what we want to touch and see.
We are a low income school in Manhattan.
Students love coming to school and learning. The teachers make our learning environment fun and friendly. Outside of school the children do not come from much; they don't own books, puzzles, toys, or games. When they step into my science classroom and see all that I have to offer, they do not want to leave.
My Project
I teach science for grades Pre-K through second grade. We learn a variety of things amongst these grades. In Pre-K we are learning about ourselves and our surroundings using our senses. In Kindergarten we are learning about the seasons and the changes going throughout the year. First graders are exploring life cycles of insects and animals. Second graders are becoming geologists by digging into the earth and learning all about rocks and minerals. With games, puzzles, lesson activities, and supplies, we can fully engage all the students across all grade levels.
Science is so important.
With materials to teach we can provide experiences that heighten students' awareness of everything that surrounds us in our world. Hands-on is the way to go, help us out!
