Scientist in the Classroom

My students need science lab supplies (scopes, scale, aprons) throughout the year. A new triple beam balance would be very beneficial during our process skills unit. These lab supplies would allow my students to be more hands on.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.

These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

In my science class almost all my lessons are hands-on activities. I have very limited resources and funding for my classroom. as a first year science teacher, I am having to make due with what I was left in my classroom. Most of my supplies are outdated or broken. There are very few resources that I am able to use with my classes.

My students deserve the best.

Through these donations, I will be able to provide hands on experiences with challenging scientific experiments. By having a microscope I will be able to show my students the parts of a cell and not just drawings or pictures. Students will be able to work a triple beam balance or a digital scale to better prepared for their chemistry classes in the future. By providing the proper safety equipment and lab equipment, my students will be able to perform experiments and labs in my classroom.
