Help me give my students an ignited desire to learn from a distance with at-home lab supplies!

Diverse backgrounds, paired with low-incomes in a high poverty district, lends to a challenging school environment. My middle school, 7th and 8th graders, are amazing with hands-on, Project-Based Learning, and Place-Based Learning opportunities. Whenever I set up the lab supplies, all eyes and ears are on me and they perform at a stellar level.
Focused, on task, and 100% engaged when they are able to manipulate their world and connect to their surroundings.
These are the students I was told couldn't do science, and that giving them lab supplies would be a disaster. What I have observed is the complete opposite. My students are thirsty for knowledge and hungry to learn as much as they can if the opportunity is presented appropriately.
My students face many challenges in their everyday life, and yet, they come to school willing to do their best if they can apply their school work to their world. This is why they love science. It explains their world, meets them where they are at, and they can explore without being told they are wrong. They get to take risks and keep trying until they get the desired results.
Virtual learning is happening at my school, and my students will be engaged with rigor while at home if I can place science equipment in their hands. Keeping them engaged until they return to the classroom is my goal. Learning the scientific method involves hands-on and place-based learning opportunities which I can assign with the requested supplies. I want them to discover science in their everyday worlds, connect with it, and measure and record their findings.
There is a great opportunity to extend learning and to take advantage of being at home with the proper supplies.
I can show them science is everywhere by engaging in meaningful lessons while distance learning from their homes.
