My Students

"My students make me feel proud. People always say one person can't make a difference, but I have proof that these kids have made a difference."-Michelle Roosma.

My students are very curious and energetic..they are ecstatic and passionate about learning, just as I am about teaching them.

I teach in a Title I school, where about 90% percent of my students are English Language Learners and come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch.

My Project

These materials will be used in as fillers in our sensory table. My students love exploring the various textures and seeing what they can do with them. They pour, dump, scoop and measure as they work with these. The sea shells, beads and gems are a fun way to explore physical properties since some might be smooth, bumpy, shiny and dull. These materials will help develop fine motor skills. The plastic creatures will be used during our thematic units as we learn more able sea creatures, dinosaurs, bugs, farms animals and zoo animals.

Sensory play is really a part of the scientific process.

Students will learn academic (STEM) concepts while using hands-on activities in the sensory table to apply science, technology, engineering, and mathematics concepts to what they are learning in class.

My students will develop questions which will lead to hands on investigation. They will get the opportunity to try different things, come to a conclusion and continue to refine that idea through more exploration of the materials.

Another benefit of these materials is language and social skills development. Many in this class need support emotionally to interact appropriately with their peers. Having to share materials within the table provides a natural opportunity to develop these skills.
