Scientific Exploration and Global Conquest Through Technology
Help me give my students the ability to learn, interact, and explore the world from within the four walls of our classroom by using the Oculus Quest 2 to go on virtual field trips.
My 5th grade students are energetic, charismatic, determined, hard working, creative and considerate. They are always excited to come to school but sometimes struggle to stay focused, complete written assignments or interact appropriately.
My students deserve an opportunity to enhance their coping, emotional, communication, social and learning skills.
No child should have a fear of getting sick, losing a family member or being a distant learner but my 5th graders do have these fears. I would like to take this opportunity to lesson these fears and encourage, foster and inspire their love of learning.
My students absolutely enjoy interactive activities as well as collaborative group projects. Sometimes they just want a quiet space to reflect or read a book. Mostly they want to be seen, heard, respected and loved.
My Project
The Oculus Quest 2 Virtual Reality (VR) Headsets will allow my students to take virtual field trips. These field trips may include exploring the Amazon Rainforest and its rich biodiversity, as well as Zion National Park to learn about the effects of weathering and erosion. The National Geographic VR app allows the students to interact with different cultures, walk the hallways of museums, travel into space and visit places they may never see otherwise.
The possibility of having the world at their fingertips will propel my students out of the fear of Covid and shift their focus to the future where they see themselves as astronauts, biologists, archaeologists, teachers, conservationists, or the Nobel Prize Winner that eliminates Covid.
The Delta Science Readers will be used to emphasize 5th grade science topics. The students will be able to read the books while using the Flex-Space Comfy Floor Seats.
Imagine sitting in your class reading about "You & Your Body", "Weather Forecasting" and the "Solar System" then being transported through various weather systems before you feel weightless as you are catapulted into the unknowns of outer space.
