Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Every student carries a calculator in their pocket. But often using that calculator leads to distractions from notifications, games and social media. Our school has implemented an initiative to help students engage more deeply with their learning. The Connect and Create Initiative is a HTHCV Community Project focused on intentional adjustments in our classrooms, our daily interactions, and our project planning with and for our students. Part of this initiative asks students to place their phones in a designated area during class. While this removes the distraction of electronic noise, it also removes the calculator from their pockets. Additionally, every platform has a slightly different calculator with slightly different capabilities.
A class set of calculators would help the students learn to make difficult calculations with the proper tools and avoid digital distraction.
