My Project

A magnetic whiteboard would be a wonderful tool for my students to create an interactive science academic word wall. They love having ownership of building word walls by making connections between vocabulary words, images, and realia (actual items).

Academic word walls are visible and accessible all year and serve as a constant reference for any student struggling to recall information.

The magnetic surface—rather than using tacks on the wall—makes it much easier for my 5th-grade students to manipulate vocabulary words, images, and realia as they build, categorize, and practice academic vocabulary throughout the year.

Last year was my first time incorporating interactive word walls with an intentional focus on academic vocabulary. As a result, student feedback was positive; they were able to reference the information easily, which encouraged engagement and meaningful interaction.
