My Students

Despite the challenges my students face every day due to living in an area where highest poverty is prevalent, my students come with an eagerness to learn and interact with others. Our school is a Title I school where 85% of students receive free or reduced lunches.

Creating an environment in the classroom that encourages students to make choices about their learning, ask questions, test ideas and interact with one another is a high priority as children achieve higher levels of learning when they feel responsible for what they learn .

To achieve higher levels of learning, children need ways to explore, learn and interact using a variety of manipulatives to help them think out of the box of traditional ideas or education.

In my classroom, children love working in cooperative groups. Working in small groups help them learn how to work with others and accept outside ideas. To enhance the experience of working in small groups, my students need manipulatives to spur them on to critical thinking, especially in Science.

My Project

Children today, need a variety of ways to learn new things. In my classroom, I strive to help my students develop critical thinking skills by providing engaging, hands-on, creative ways to help them learn.

Students need hands-on manipulatives to investigate, ask questions, test their thinking, and form conclusions.

Having Science manipulatives will provide my students with a new ways to look at electricity and geology.

During the Electricity Unit, my students will learn about circuits. With the help of Snap Circuit Jr. kits. Electrical parts provide students with hands-on experience designing and building models of working electrical circuits. Students will be able to complete over 100 projects, including working models of a photo sensor, a flashing light, and an adjustable-volume siren. Snap Circuits will also provide valuable components to a rounded STEM curriculum.

During the Rocks and Minerals Unit, my students will learn about Earth and geology. Using the "Fossils On!" game, my students will build on their knowledge of geology to help them understand how Earth and geology work together to form many wonderful creations. Rock On! Is an educational, science game that offers STEM-based, hands-on learning while exploring Earths geological treasures. The rock and mineral collection includes 15 specimens and 60+ polished, rock & mineral pieces with various minerals and all 3 rock classes. Rock On! offers fun, challenge and knowledge of the geology of Earth. My students will connect to our magnificent Earth and foster a lifetime of interest and love of nature.
