My Project
Science is more than facts and formulas—it’s a story of people, problems, and the planet. In my classroom, I strive to help students see science not just as a subject, but as something deeply human and urgently relevant. With your support, I hope to bring two powerful nonfiction books into our biology and Earth and Space Science classes: The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and World Without Fish.
In biology, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks will guide students through the complex ethical questions behind one of the most important cell lines in medical research.
It will spark discussion around consent, race, and the role of individuals in scientific advancement—topics that bring science to life and challenge students to think critically about the world around them.
In Earth and Space Science, World Without Fish will introduce students to the real-world consequences of climate change, overfishing, and ecological imbalance. It sets the stage for our Trout in the Classroom project, where students will raise trout from eggs and release them into local waterways. This hands-on experience, combined with the book’s exploration of sustainability, will help students understand their role in protecting our planet’s ecosystems.
By integrating storytelling, ethics, and environmental science, this project will help students connect emotionally and intellectually to science—and empower them to think deeply about the choices we make as individuals and as a society.
