My Students

Do you remember you HS science class?? Sometimes the content can be repetitive and it was probably hard to remain engaged. For my students, which of whom many struggle to read on grade level, having an interesting science journal to grab their attention and to challenge my early finishers would help.

My students attend a small public school in Mississippi.

With our district having recently been declared a state of emergency by the state, we have limited to no funding for enrichment type educational supplies. Many of my students live at or far below the poverty level, and the majority qualify for the federal free and reduced lunch program. Ninety-Nine percent of my student are African-American and read at a 5-6th grade reading level. Therefore, teaching content on grade level is a challenge. However, they continue to inspire and motivate myself and other teachers alike with their artistic creativity and determination. Please help us reach our goal of having an amazing Biology I classroom that inspires learning!

My Project

I have requested a classroom subscription to a "Science Weekly Reader" publication. These resources will not only directly impact student achievement, but they will help bring our classroom to the same level that other classrooms around the country are already learning on. We are underfunded and under resourced and your donation is a small step to closing the large gap that our country faces in education at a national and local level. You will help my students increase their reading proficiency, learn to think critically and inspire them to become modern day scientists who are educated about the world in which we live.

If you could only meet my students, no explanation would be needed.

These students are funny, charming amazing students who are working to beat all the odds that have been stacked against them. This includes all the obstacles they face outside of the classrooms as well. They have a hunger for learning, but an ever-persistent disadvantage to catch up to the grade level they should be performing at. You donation will help the students of our tiny school rise up to prove what they can do.
