My Students

Stimulate learning through this great resourceful and interactive video library presented by Bill Nye the Science Guy!

Our students live in a low socioeconomic neighborhood, many of whom depend on the school to be the center of the community.

Teachers spend large amounts of their own money to provide students with school supplies and snacks in order for them to have the needed materials and energy for successful learning. Many of our students rely on visual representation of the materials because they do not have the background knowledge needed to successfully comprehend the materials for the grade level standards.

My Project

Bill Nye video collection is a stimulating way to introduce students to the science all around us. These videos correlate to multiple content areas, such as English Language Arts theme on Nature's Fury. After watching one of these videos, many students see the excitement in science and become eager to experiment and gain a new perspective on content standards. I am currently teaching two separate grade levels, which requires me to have a vast resource of materials to share with my students. Fourth grade science curriculum encompasses related videos such as plants, flowers, and gravity. Fifth grade studies the human body and its body systems which include videos such as digestion, heart, respiration, and chemical reactions. We also study the planets and our solar system around the sun along with atmospheric conditions that allow for life on Earth. All of these content relationships can be enhanced and emphasized through the Bill Nye Science collection to create realistic connections.

The science video library is important to my students because it brings field trips to the classroom in an interactive and magical way.

Bill Nye provides a lure for student interest and introduces content in a memorable fashion. These videos will last through generations of students and will be shared throughout my school. By donating to my project, you will be helping multiple classrooms enjoy your generous gift.
