My students need an iPad so that they can access and utilize the myriad of interactive science education applications and programs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Modern interactive technology offers a wide array of methods for children to connect with new information and ideas. However, my classroom suffers from a lack of access to these tools as well as an overburdened wireless network. An iPad for our classroom would change that.
I teach 6th grade science in a low income, high needs neighborhood.
Many of my students are English Language Learners and/or have learning disabilities and would benefit from the kinesthetic and interactive experience that iPad technology offers.
My students work hard and want to succeed, but circumstances beyond their control often conflict with their studies. Unfortunately, one thing all of my students have in common is that their families are struggling financially. Within our school a majority of the students qualify for the state's free or reduced meal program, and many live in shelters. Poverty limits their access to educational materials and technology in the home. Regrettably, budget cuts in the school have rendered teachers unable to keep classrooms up-to-date.
My Project
An iPad would be such a valuable resource for my students because of the hundreds of interactive educational applications, access to Internet resources, and portability for field research and outdoor projects. The iPad would allow students to perform virtual dissections, track weather systems, map the stars, view microbes and build molecules. The iPad's kid-friendly design would make mastering new information even more appealing for my tech-savvy students. With so many tactile learners in my classroom, this tool would certainly maximize student engagement and participation in lessons.
Whether studying microscopic organisms, the rain forest canopy, or the surface of Mars, an iPad would give my students the opportunity to experience in their small Brooklyn classroom things that would be otherwise out of reach.
