My Students
Every day my students walk into my classroom eager to learn. They are readers, writers, mathematicians, historians, and scientists. Through challenges, my students are learning to think critically. There are many ways my students love to learn, from books and teachers to technology and even through each other. They are dedicated, hard working students, excited for their next adventure at school.
They come from different backgrounds and cultures, but we are a community centered around learning.
We are learning to think critically and expand our horizons every day in the third grade.
My Project
A classroom can never have too many books, especially nonfiction. My students love to read and they love science. I want to blend these two loves together. Through the TIMES for Kids and Super Science readers from Scholastic, my students will be able to read nonfiction texts on current events. This will help keep my students engaged in their reading and learning.
My scientists love to read.
The individual titles that I have selected are based on the new Next Generation Science Standards. I have just begun to implement these standards in my classroom, but need more text to support the investigations. Textbooks provided by the publishers can be very basic and not interesting to students.
I have also selected some teacher resource for teaching reading and writing to better be able to support my students in the area of nonfiction.
