My students are creative thinkers who raise the bar for "out of the box" thinking when working on STEM lessons. Their teamwork through collaboration, successes, and failures help to stretch their engineering minds!
Embedding science, technology, engineering, and mathematics with a focus on literacy has helped my students to learn about listening to each other, valuing differences in opinion and ability, and to cheer each other on!
Using STEM in the classroom has promoted growth in all learners from diverse backgrounds, learning styles/ abilities, and economic backgrounds. Each child brings a unique and dynamic approach to the various challenges of STEM lessons.
My Project
Science! Technology! Engineering! Mathematics! and Reading! Oh My! Help me to support my students with STEM+R materials to reach all learners. My students in the past have been so engaged with the STEM lessons that I've utilized in my classroom, however, we don't always have the supplies necessary for our projects, including literacy tie-ins that include minority populations and individuals with disabilities. I am requesting books where a diverse population is spotlighted as leaders in STEM such as "Never Too Young!: 50 Unstoppable Kids Who Made a Difference", "Girls Think of Everything: Stories of Ingenious Inventions by Women", and "Stories for Boys Who Dare to Be Different: True Tales of Amazing Boys Who Changed the World without Killing Dragons." In addition, I am hoping to stock my classroom with supplies both consumable and non consumable to be used in STEM lessons. Students will use masking tape, craft sticks, pipe cleaners, mosaic tiles, and building disks and blocks to create bridges, buildings, rafts, temporary structures and more!
My favorite part of STEM implementation is seeing success in students that are not always successful in traditional academic lessons!
I am seeking help to promote that sense of success in students through STEM lessons that tie into literacy. Help my students to identify as young scientists and engineers no matter their background, skill level, or gender!
