Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science," Edwin Powell Hubble. Students at my elementary school have the senses needed to learn, just not the materials.
I count myself lucky.
I am lucky I get to work with amazing students who care about their education. Students here are attending a Title I school. We have over 20 languages spoken in our school, and most students come from one of 30 different countries. They have little money available to them and with that fewer life experiences. They desperately want to learn and do projects that answer the question why, but have little guidance outside of school, and little resources to fund their dreams. Although they have little resources they have big hearts and even brighter futures. School starts at 8:45 and ends at 3:15. Many of my students arrive at 8:00 and leave my class around 4:00. They are always asking to learn more and for help to get farther ahead.
My Project
Our classroom currently has 3 desktop computers with over 20 students in my class. iPads will give my students the ability to receive a hands on approach to their learning. They will be able to explore and learn more about Science and Engineering through applications that encourage deeper thinking. They will be able to not only read about science, but to explore it. I plan to have them document learning through video and use QR codes to connect to learning activities. I use Expo markers daily; I find this is a very effective way for me to quickly monitor their math work and progress. With the expo markers we will be able to do math work daily without wasting paper, and will be able to quickly fix our mistakes and move forward with our learning. We will being using the Sun Art paper to study the science of light.
My students are pure examples of learners.
They are so enthusiastic and love to come to school. By supporting my project, you will give students a chance to discover many concepts and ideas by themselves. I love for my students to learn answers based off of what they want to know and then to allow them to discover the answers on their own. These students are pure examples of learners and everything it means to be inquisitive. This project will provide students with the opportunities they crave.
