My Project

My students are some of the most genuine kids you could meet. They aren’t worried about the latest fashion or the newest shoes—they care about learning the math skills they need. Many of them are 2 to 3 years behind in math, but they work hard to tackle grade-level concepts without fussing. In my math class, learning isn’t just about numbers on a page—my SPED students learn best by doing.

We just need the space to do it together, like one big family.

One day, we were practicing the order of operations with addition and subtraction using real-life manipulatives like counters. One student looked up and said, “My desk is just too small for what I’m doing.” I realized he was right. Many students had papers and counters sprawled across their desks, trying to fit everything on an 18 by 20-inch surface. On top of that, the desk tops were loose, making it even harder to work comfortably.

Without sturdy science tables—soon to be called math tables—the classroom can turn into complete chaos: a gust of wind spills counters, pencils roll across the floor, and base ten rods collapse everywhere! Strong, spacious tables would keep everything in place. They would allow students to calculate freely, explore math hands-on, and learn in ways that truly make sense to them.

These tables wouldn’t just support the math activities—they would support the learning, keep the classroom safe, and even save me from spending the rest of the day picking up counters. With these tables, math becomes an adventure: curiosity thrives, mistakes turn into lessons, and every student can participate fully without feeling cramped.
