A typical day in Earth/Environmental Science is fast paced to say the least. I have students sharing books to help each other, watching videos to gain as much knowledge as they can, and then everyone is trying to learn about our universe by looking at pictures, just plain old pictures.
My class is a diverse group of young adults.
Our school is a high poverty school and my goal by the end of the year is to provide these students with the needed education they desire. My biggest challenge is getting the materials they need to learn in this class. These students are seniors, for the most part, so they are so eager to learn and I am eager to provide them with every opportunity that I can. These students would do anything to learn more about the Earth & Universe, yet all I can provide them are videos and pictures. Pictures are not the way to learn earth science, so with these supplies I will be able to safely offer the students more hands-on learning activities and labs.
My Project
These resources would give my students the items they need to complete hands-on labs in class and master the objectives. The Sharpe markers, memo pad sheets, plastic storage bins, erasers, markers, and organizer drawers will give my students the ability to complete and store their hands on learning labs. The binders and biology/physical science books will give my students the extra help they need so they can have the supplies they need to be successful and master the objectives. The facial tissues are for students during class. This allows the students to get the full experience that currently they only get out of a textbook or website. Today's learning is very much technology inclined, yet some objectives still are better hands-on such as viewing the different organs and tissues after we have studied them.
Donations to this project can only increase the students' learning and mastering the objectives.
Sparking an interest in science that they will care with them for a life time is the ultimate goal. These resources for this project not only will touch students' lives this year, but for years to come, as they can be used for many years and shared between the different classes. So the learning is unlimited!
