This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 23 students at an inner-city school where the majority of students are English language learners and one hundred percent of students receive free lunch. Our school is a very close community and we are like one big family.

My students are sweet, energetic kids who are excited to learn but they have many obstacles to overcome.

They don't have many resources at home and often come to school not just to learn but to have many other needs met. This year is different… Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my kindergarten students are learning live online at home and I want to make this year as successful as I can for my early learners.

My Project

Sometimes I struggle to teach science and social studies in my classroom because of all the other things we have to do so I love it when I can find ways to teach science but also sneak some reading in there! Let's Find Out magazine is great way to learn about both science and social studies topics. I had a subscription to Let's Find Out this year and I was blown away by all the different topics as well as the digital resources. I am really excited to add on Science Spin and see what other things we can learn about.

My students love these magazines!

They love the bright pictures and the fun topics. They are always so excited when I break them out! The online resources allow us to go deeper into each topic with videos, games, activities and even themed dance breaks. I love that students can take them home and tell their families all about what we're learning. These magazines have quickly become such a helpful staple in my teaching that I can't see going without them ever again.
