This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our first graders come to school every day with never-ending questions about the world. Their curiosity and desire to learn has no boundaries.

94% of the students at our K-6 Title I charter school in Phoenix receive free or reduced lunches and 65% are identified as English Language Learners.

Throughout the year our first graders learn about the human body, nutrition, astronomy, the history of the Earth, and animals and their habitats. With the limited resources available our students participate in a variety of engaging projects, but hands-on exposure is critical.

My Project

A trip to the Science Center will provide our first graders with interactive exposure to STEM fields. Most of our students do not have the opportunity to explore places outside their community.

All students deserve the chance to be exposed to the vast wonders of science, no matter what socioeconomic background they come from.

This field trip will spark the curiosity and creativity of our students and ensure their love for learning and science continues to grow past first grade. Past trips to the Science Center have left a lasting impression on the students who continue to pursue a science interest.
