Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our 4th graders are special because many are English Language Learners who are learning both the English language and the 4th grade curriculum at the same time. They are dedicated, hardworking and love to learn, especially about science.

This project would provide each child with a weekly copy of Scholastic News magazine and unlimited use of the online resources in Spanish and English in school and at home.

Learning about STEM topics not only stimulates our students' curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, it also introduces them to many different career paths that they may want to pursue in the future. Having goals for the future further motivates our students to strive to do their best and learn all they can.

We use our Scholastic magazines each week as class. We read the articles together, watch the educational videos, learn new vocabulary, discuss and finally complete comprehension activities as a class, in small groups or as an individual assessment. These activities help students organize their thoughts and take their learning to the next level where they can write about it and comprehend the material more deeply. The comprehension lessons and worksheets are also differentiated so as teachers, we can choose the exact right activities for our students to learn best with.

Kids love learning with Scholastic News in school and at home and it will help them thrive in 4th grade and beyond.
