My Students

My students are amazing, wonderful, hardworking, determined young adults. They have grown up with nothing and want to succeed. These students are from the Southwest Detroit area and are living in conditions we wouldn't wish upon our enemies. In order to be successful, students need supplies. When you have nothing, the only place you can go is up.

These kids are so determined to be successful every little step is a huge gain for them and brightens their day.

These wonderful students who are just trying to make it in the world and set out everyday to do their best. But it's hard to do your best when you are met with obstacles such as hunger and homelessness. These kids suffer through things we as adults couldn't imagine ourselves going through let alone a child. On top of that these kids come to school hungry to learn and are met with obstacles again. They come to a classroom with not enough supplies, books or even computers.

How can I help these kids if I don't have the tools necessary to do so? All these kids want in life is to be successful, please help me make their dreams come true.

My Project

The current curriculum that is used in my school is a wonderful curriculum. It focuses on learning through experimentation, which for science is wonderful! The experiments are wonderful and the students really love them. My biggest problem with this curriculum is that they don't have science books.

My students have no where to turn to feed their curiosity.

The experiments are great and spark many great discussions however, after the discussions are over my students are left wanting more and have no where to turn to get the information they desire. I am asking for these books so that my students can have a place where they can look up information that need in order to fuel their curiosity and desire to learn more.

By having these books students will become more engaged in our lessons and feel empowered to gain knowledge on their own instead of waiting for me to tell them what the answers are.
