No library, access to computer lab, or in class computer makes research and keeping current nearly impossible!
My students show more dedication to their "jobs" (school) than most adults do.
These are a group of 7th grade students that attend school from 8-5 and then most stay after for extra curricular activities or study help. Then they continue to pursue knowledge and learning by completing HW. Some of my students have a commute of over an hour to get to school! These students come to school willing to learn from the minimum materials, but why should they? Such hard work should be rewarded with hands-on learning!
My Project
Access to technology is a fundamental need for my students to learn and develop their research skills. The iPad will provide instant access to dictionaries, books, and video applications that will enhance the learning in the classroom. I thoroughly believe that students need to be prepared for college by doing some of the "heavy lifting" in the classroom. By having the iPad as a resource, students will have an opportunity to search for the answers themselves instead of being given the information.
Without access to technology the students in this rural community may continue to fall even further behind than their more affluent peers.
Please join me in giving all possible opportunities for my students to have access to the same resources and education as other student communities.
