My students need a lung model set to demonstrate how the lungs function. This will undo the misconception that lungs are like balloons and show the dangers of smoking.
Make science exciting! Science is much more memorable and fun with hands-on activities.
My students are great!
They are ready to learn and experience science. My kids' background knowledge varies greatly so I need as many hands-on activities as possible. 7th grade is a challenging year for students - they are allowed to participate in extracurricular activities for the first time, having hormonal short circuits and learning science that they will need for the next 3-4 years. Anything I can do to make them more successful in understanding and retaining the content is more than worth its weight in gold!
We will be learning about biology in 7th grade science. The lung models allow students to see how lungs act more like a sponge than a balloon. They also see how healthy lungs are vastly different from unhealthy/smoker's lungs. The pig lungs are shocking, gross and awesome! I have used this activity for years but changed schools....new school does not have a set. This was one of the favorite activities of my students in years past.
This is money well spent that will last for years!
When my kids make memories, they have made connections that last. This is so important because they are not tested over it for another year and then need the knowledge again in 10th grade. I have to make my lessons memorable and make them count!
