Help me give my students a true Project Based Learning experience - students will cut and build solar ovens and eco-friendly tiny houses with ZipSnip cutting tools, a minifigure set, work gloves, and duct tape.

My students are from low income homes with little parental support. Our school just got approved for free lunch for all students Kindergarten through 8th grade. These students deserve the opportunity to have an education just like all other students.
My class will use critical thinking and problem solving skills while doing projects to broaden their career opportunities to have a better future.
I've learned in the past few years that many of these students have never seen the University campus near which they live. These students are at the age now that they are absorbing everything that they are introduced to like a sponge.
One project that students will be doing year is designing and building an eco-friendly tiny house by cutting, hot gluing and taping cardboard, create furniture with card stock, toothpicks, straws, and clay. They will follow that project up with a solar oven made out of cardboard, aluminum foil, popsicle sticks, wooden dowels, card stock, pipe cleaners, and yarn. Later on when we cover the weather unit students will use cardboard to design and build a storm chaser vehicle out of the same materials as the other projects. They will also make a water filter using the rubber bands and coffee filters. Students will disassemble the Lego mini figures when we begin our human body cells unit. Safety is our main concern when doing project so student will wear gloves when cutting and gluing.
Our goal this year is to encourage students to broaden their imagination on careers they could choose.
By offering these experiences in Project Based Learning we hope to intrigue their interest. We want students to realize how much they impact the world at such a young age.
