With these flower pots science can come to life right in front of their eyes. With the whiteboards and markers our time can be used wisely by allowing me to do quick checks for understanding.
Today was my first day and I am so in love.
All of my kids have a passion for learning which is incredible! I want to meet all of their needs and more! They are very smart, creative and curious about the unknown. They like to ask questions and learn new things. I want to engage them daily in various topics with all kinds of lessons and activities. I want them to stay excited about learning and love coming to school!
My Project
My first unit in science is plants. For me to bring this topic to life for my kids we will be growing plants in our classroom. Each student will have their own plant to care for so that is why I need the flower pots. An added bonus is that they will be able to take the plants home as a Mother's Day gift!
The other materials I requested are white boards and white board markers. A lot of our lessons start with the kids on the carpet and me sitting on a chair, writing on the whiteboard. During this time I am usually introducing a new topic. With each student having a whiteboard on their lap and whiteboard marker in their hand; I can ask a question to check their understanding. For example, I show them how to solve a two step math problem while at the carpet. Then I write one on the board and ask them to solve it then hold up their boards. This method allows me to check their understandings quickly and efficiently!

I feel very strongly about science being hands-on. This science project will allow the students to have control over their learning experience. It not only teaches them about plants but also responsibility!
The whiteboards and markers will make a difference in their pace of learning. With these I'll be able to quickly check their understanding to see if I have to slow down, reteach or move along.
