This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I refuse to believe that a student is not old enough to learn about science and that scientific vocabulary and process are to complex for them to understand. Through the years I have found that kindergrtners are capable of understanding the scientific process and I need your help to continue.

The students at this public school are at about 79% participation in the free and reduced food program.

They are eager to learn and will benefit greatly from observing plants. In the past three years, we have been able to close the achievement gap by providing the students with the best instruction possible. The school teachers in this building believe strongly that all students will succeed and we do our best to provide them with explicit instruction in all content areas. It has been my experience that students are enthralled by the sciences and thirst for more scientific knowledge, this science project provides them with the experience they thirst for.

My Project

The only way I can convey how important these tools are for our students is to relate my students comments. After teaching this plant unit students use scientific vocabulary. They use the world photosynthesis when talking amongst themselves and discussing plant growth. One student said, "That plant is getting a lot of photosynthesis" when he observed a large weed growing outside the classroom. It is with your donations that I plan on purchasing soil and water growing plants. This will provide the students with an opportunity to observe plant growth and learn the scientific academic vocabulary related to plants. The student beamed with pride as use their high academic language with their parents and older siblings. We all know the saying "knowledge is power" well helping my students gain knowledge in the sciences makes them powerful. In these tough economical times I need your help to make them powerful.

Once again, I implore you to help me increase my students knowledge in the sciences.

I need your help to encourage these students in high poverty and at high risk of failure to love science. It has been my experience that these tools inspire them to be scientist.
