Science Outside the Classroom

My students need five iPads to take them beyond the walls of our classroom as we study and read about physical science while working in their science lab groups.

My Students

I teach 4th Grade writing and science at a Washington, D.C public school. My school is centered in a community that struggles with high poverty, unemployment, homelessness, and crime rates. I have been teaching at this school for the past seven years and keep coming back each year because of the spark I see each year in the eyes of my students. They are constantly growing, seeking more information about themselves, their community, and the world. They have big dreams and are constantly working hard to transform these dreams into reality. However, do to their intense poverty status these dreams may seem unreachable.

"You are not judged by the height you have risen, but from the depth you have climbed." Donors, with your help we can level the playing field for my students, by closing the achievement gap.

My Project

In order to level the playing field, my students need access to quality technology tools and need the ability to log on daily. Unfortunately, the technology at our school is stretched thin; most of the laptops and desktops do not work and the ones that do are used primarily for testing across all the grades.

These iPads would ensure my students receive daily access to technology programs like FOSS science and do online science experiments.

During small groups, technology will be a center where students can utilize these iPads and access amazing blended learning programs that our school has already purchased but does not have enough available tech for students to actually implement.
