Science Opens Minds and Doors

Help me give my students engaging, award-winning books on a variety of complex, yet accessible scientific topics.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Paul Dale's classroom raised $404

My Students

My students have learned about the Rubik's Cube; Herd Immunity and Vaccines; the Patterns of the Moon, Sun, and Earth; the Coronavirus; the Health Benefits of Crying; Unemployment Rates; Mars and the Perseverance Rover; and Whales, Bats, Elephants, and other animals.

Every day, they show up willing and ready to learn.

All of my students speak English as their Second Language. This past year unimaginably challenged them, and yet they continue to show up and learn while I guide them.

My Project

My students regularly ask questions about the natural world and other science-based topics. They hunger for the answers to questions like "Why does the sky change color during a sunset?" or "What does the 'The Big Bang' really mean?"

The books that I have selected for this project guide students toward finding the answers, while spawning new questions.

All of these books garnered the status of "Outstanding Science Trade Books for Students" by the National Science Teaching Association. I want to put these books in my students' hands.

I plan to use these books in the same way we routinely approach our classwork. We will use them to learn new academic vocabulary, sentence structures, text organization features, and other language features. All of my work is guided by research in working with English Learners.
