Science of Reading From the Start

My Project

In my class, I have a wide range of learners. About one-third were identified as special education services, and especially benefit from science-based practices in their reading instruction. These resources and manipulatives will provide us with the things we need to start with Science of Reading strategies from the beginning of the school year.

My goal is to get all students to reach their stretch growth goals, even my special education students.

I believe that we will be able to reach this goal through solid teaching strategies, differentiation for student needs and consistent practice. The menu covers will allow even my lowest students to engage in independent repeated practice with reading and spelling words. For small group instruction, the Montessori Grammar Symbols, primary lined composition books, two-sided counters and hand2mind Reading Rods will allow me to provide hands-on practice manipulating words and sounds. These tools will help equip me to provide access to reading for all my students.
