My students need regular and neon dry erase markers for making stop motion video clips and graphs and models on black lab desk tops.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students learn difficult science concepts best when they are asked to model scientific processes. With modeling, it is easy to see and address students misconceptions. With support, I will give my students the opportunity to delve into science via modeling.
We have students from all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
Because of our commitment to our students, our school is high performing despite many challenges. Our school is urban and we have roughly half of our population receiving free or reduced lunch. My students are motivated to learn. My AP Biology students have chosen to take an extremely difficult class because of their interests and my Anatomy and Physiology students are committed to science and have chosen the class as an elective. I also have biology students who are just beginning their science coursework.
My Project
My students have been working on modeling this year as our school moves to implement the Next Generation Science Standards. Teachers from an online community I am part of have had great success having their students turn their black lab desks into posters with the use of neon dry erase markers. Students can make large graphs, and model mitosis. While having fun with the novelty of writing on desks. Students can then walk around the room and help peer edit so that they gain analytical skills and a deeper understanding of the processes they are learning about. I would love to have my students try out the neon markers that others have found so helpful.
Currently, my students use a stop motion application to make stop motion movies. Students learn a lot more about science when they are responsible for making it come to life. Students use dry erase markers in making their movies, but the ones we have are drying out. We need more markers so that the learning can continue.
By getting the neon dry erase markers and regular dry erase markers, my students will be able to make science come to life with modeling.
Students have already had great success with stop motion video making, and I would love to be able to continue making moves throughout the year. I am also eager to have my students try turning their lab desks into posters with the neon markers.
More than half of students from low‑income households
