Science Matters!

My Students

My students are ages 4 and 5 in preschool for the first time. My class has 80% of students speaking a language other than English in their home. This diversity makes our classroom very special. The children can learn from each other. Even though my students come from diverse cultures if you would observe my students you would notice a similarity in their development of basic skills.

I want all of my young learners to feel welcome to explore, create, and discover new skills together.

As a teacher of young students, I work hard to set up our classroom for learning. The environment needs to foster learning through play. With this first experience of going to school, my biggest task is to have my students love learning.

My Project

My preschool students love to investigate and explore. These open ended science materials will allow my students to explore with tools to help them learn. The balance scale, binoculars, flashlights, discovery tubes, eye droppers, and STEM kit will help encourage exploration and scientific learning throughout our school year. The items can be used with multiple materials to help them explore in different ways. I can offer natural items such as rocks, seeds, and shells to allow the children to observe the characteristics of each material. These items will also allow my preschool students to experience the world around them by seeing items in a different manner. I know these materials will bring joy to our learning.
