My Students
Help us connect literacy and Science! The new Common Core requires students to go above and beyond their foundational literacy skills by applying them in other content areas. My class will be specifically applying their skills in the content area of Science but we need more Science books!
I have a very diverse class.
I have Caucasian, Asian, Hispanic, and Pacific Islander ethnicites. My students work very hard and have a strong desire to learn. They attend a public school and are in the 6th grade. About half of them have a low socio-economic status.
My Project
Obtaining Science books that actually match the Common Core will be invaluable to my students learning! Having these books at their fingertips will help my students' curiosity! I will also be able to teach them how to apply and connect their literacy skills across the content area of Science. We will also be able to explore the processes of Science and do group collaborations and hands-on experiments. My students will feel valued because these books will be right in our classroom whenever they need them.
Our current Science text book is over 10 years old and very outdated.
In fact, it does not even match what the students are supposed to learn in 6th grade. By funding my project, you will be validating their learning and providing them with the tools necessary to learn what they need to in order to perform well in the areas of literacy, Science, and in the school of life!
