My Students

Our school is located in a small rural community, but our students dream big. Students take chemistry because they want to succeed in the fields of nursing, engineering, astrophysics, dentistry, radiology, pharmacy and medicine, just to name a few. As a chemistry teacher, I want to be able to give them the tools and resources needed to prepare them for college and their chosen profession. These students are excited to learn and constantly challenge me to raise the bar and go in depth on topics. I am so blessed to work with these students.

My Project

Chemistry and Physics classes both integrate science theory and real world math. This can be a challenging combination. Both subject areas focus on critical thinking and utilize a problem solving approach. Students learn best when they can practice problem solving using trial and error.

This project will provide students with dry erase boards, markers and erasers to practice real world math in the science classroom.

These supplies allow each student to practice independently, while providing the teacher easy visibility to student work so that feedback can be given in real time. This type of formative assessment is very effective at remedying student misconceptions and allowing the teacher to redirect instruction to the areas most needed by the students.
