Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! They absolutely love hands-on, active and engaging projects/activities/lessons. The students in our school strive for excellence. I have many different types of learners in my class. I have gifted students, English learners, learning disabilities, and students where they should be.

My Project

Students in my classroom create their own learning resource. We cut, paste, and color almost every school day. There is no one way to create your interactive notebook because there is not only one way that students learn and retain information. I, as the facilitator of learning, give them a basic starting print out. Students will cut, glue, and create their notes on topics and vocabulary as they see fit with their choice of colored pencils, markers, and ultra-fine sharpies for detailed labeling. When students draw a picture of what they have learned, it is more likely they have an overall understanding of the topic. I have also found that presentation is everything. If you were to give a student an option of a white sheet of paper or a brightly colored sheet, more times than not the student will go with the eye-catching colored sheet. I use astrobright paper to entice the students into interacting with the printed material. Students in my class not only create their own learning resource but take ownership of this learning tool and are proud of what they have created. Please help me ensure that my students have the supplies to finish the year strong in science.
