My Students

A group of 6th graders at the top of the Elementary School can frighten some, but nothing is more fun than seeing them come into their own. Watching them figure out who they are and who they want to be is such a rewarding process and I love being a part of that. This group of 80 sixth graders has great talent and abilities. They love using technology to learn and create new things. They love Science and Technology. They have especially loved learning about space this year.

My Project

I have one Sun-Earth-Moon model in my class that I use when teaching. We use it every day for 2-3 weeks to understand why we have solar and lunar eclipses and the difference between the two. We also discuss the tilt of the earth and how that affects seasons. It is also a great way to show direct and indirect sunlight and how that impacts the seasons on earth. I have found that when a student is struggling with these concepts, being able to physically manipulate the model helps them understand much better. I would love to be able to put more of these models into the hands of more students and let them manipulate them in small groups.

Our school is one to one with chromebooks which allows me to give my students opportunity to learn independently.

Sometimes this requires them to watch instructional and education videos from their chromebooks. This can be very difficult when all students do not have headphones.
