This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are mostly in the first generation to college. Our school is a school for advanced studies which provides accelerated curriculum to English Language Learners who would not typically get access in a traditional school. We are also an AVID Site of Distinction, which basically means our whole school works toward college readiness.

Our students want to go to college.

Alumni have gotten into all 9 UCs, many Cal States and several private school. The students are involved in sports, volunteer opportunities, leadership development and building community.

My Project

The fortune tell fish help show students basic laboratory protocols. The students get so excited when the fish curls in their palm and are innately excited to discover what makes the fish move.

The lamps will support growing plants in our classroom.

Some students forget plants are living things and watching them grow in front of their very eyes remind them that plants are a living, moving, and growing creature. The plant slides shows the students the anatomy of a plant at the cellular level.

The yeast show students the concept of cellular respirations. We also need test tube racks to be able hold the different conditions so student can change concentration of sugar, temperature or enzyme concentration.
