Science Lab Equipment! Making Hands-On Scientific Learning Available For All!

My students need accurate scales including force meters and spring scales to measure both push and pull forces, thermometers for doing experiments with phase changes and thermodynamics, and calculators for calculations.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a Title 1 school, my students come from a wide variety of underpriveledged backgrounds, and a multitude of family and home situations. In general, my students are hard-working, hands on learners who often struggle with language; my students appreciate the visual and textile experiences of Science, and I love exposing them to tangible, visual, and experimental nature of Science content.

My students are generally mature enough to appreciate the depth and application of Science content, but young enough to still get wide-eyed at the Magic behind Scientific explanations of the world around them.

My Project

Spring Scales and a digital scale will allow for accurate readings and actual hands-on experiments including Newton's Laws and calculating forces of PUSHing and PULLing. We do many lessons on forces, and with these specialized scales, I can design labs around actually measuring different forces and changing variables, such as the mass, friction, and density of the objects.

Thermometers will allow for a huge increase of hands-on learning of Physical Science through Phase Changes and Thermodynamics.

We currently have a limited supply of thermometers in my classroom, and students have a hard time being able to measure temperatures, especially when rapid phase changes are taking place - for each set of lab partners to have access to their own thermometer for the experiment, it will be much more efficient and engaging!

Calculators will allow students who don't have their own, or their own smart phone, to keep up with their peers in Mathematical analysis of experiments, and in the Math Support class I also teach.
