Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school serves students in grades K-8 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment. We are located in a rural area of Phoenix, Arizona where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school goal is to prepare our students for success in high school and college. Classroom sizes range in the high 20's and low 30's. While computers are supplied here on campus, many students do not have internet access at home to take the knowledge home. My goal is to use technology and hands-on activities to create memorable learning experiences.
My Project
These magazines and books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is already rich in literature, my hope is to enhance the lack of science in my curriculum with take-home magazines and read along books. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-I have also asked them what they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books and take home magazines which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books and magazines, my students will be able to share their learning at home while independently reading at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
