Science is everywhere! But what if you can't see the science that your teacher is talking about? What if you can't see where to cut open the sheep heart, how to use the balance or see the cells under the microscope?
Our school serves a racially and socioeconomically diverse group of students.
My students are a one of a kind bunch-- they love science or they hate science, their parents are professors or they're homeless, they're just learning English or they speak 4 other languages, they've traveled the world or they've never left their hometown, and anything and everything in between. The students at our urban public middle school are held to high standards, so they deserve access to the tools that that will allow all students to reach their potential and become the next generation of leaders in science.
My Project
Investigation and experimentation are crucial aspects to middle school science in California, so hands-on activities and lab experiments are a vital piece of my classroom. A document camera provides endless possibilities to enhance those experiences-- rather than just having one small demonstration set up or only telling my students about ways to test their hypotheses or collect data, I'll be able to clearly show them exactly what I'm talking about.
When setting up any kind of experiment in the classroom -- preparing for a cow eyeball dissection to learn about light and the human body, observations of cheek cells using the microscope, demonstrating how to use a triple beam balance to study physical science, creating a hot air balloon to investigate relative density, or building a rubber band powered car to demonstrate Newton's Laws of Motion -- all students will have a significant advantage if they can easily see what is happening.
If we want our students and the future of America to advance in science, we need to make sure that they have the tools and support they really need to make those advancements.
Your much appreciated donations will make it possible for my students to have those opportunities and excel in science.
