Science Is a Hoot!

Help me give my students owl pellets to dissect and explore! This hands-on experience will be something they will remember for years to come!

My Project

My class consists of 65 amazing students! These third graders are leaders who love science and hands-on learning! They are constantly exploring and investigating! I enjoy seeing their minds bloom each day as they grow and learn!

Our school population is of low socioeconomic status, with more than 75% qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch.

This, however, is not a barrier to the high level of achievement they have been recognized for within the community and state. I am very proud of them and their work ethic!

My Project

Quality and engaging owl texts will provide my students with the opportunity to research and investigate owls. This will grow their excitement, even more, leading up the owl pellet investigation.

By exploring owl pellets, students will be able to learn about various science topics in an engaging way!

My students will research food chains and life cycles with hands-on dissection. Once dissection is complete students will sort and classify the skeletal remains and explain what their owl ate and how they know. Students will be able to determine not only what the owl ate, but also what kind of consumer the owl is (herbivore, carnivore, or omnivore) through their observations.

I can't wait to provide this "hoot" of an experience for my students this year! This project will provide an unforgettable hands-on learning experience. Most importantly, students will develop a love and excitement for STEM.
