I am an 8th Grade science teacher for a rural county outside the Outer Banks. When I was in high school I competed in a great organization called Science Olympiad. I am now starting a team at my Middle school and am very excited to share this experience with my students. Science Olympiad is partly why I became a science teacher and I want my students to have the same experience that I did. Through this competition, students gain valuable science inquiry skills, as well as, self-confidence, team building skills, and a better understanding of science concepts. I want my students to be able to compete in this competition to the best of their abilities but I am in need of supplies. My school system has already paid for my students to compete in the competition and they have paid for me to attend a coach's clinic. My school has already generously spent over $300.00 and my students have been willing to pay for basic supplies but I am still in need of some expensive items that require larger funds. I am in need of a bridge testing kit. This item will be used by 25+ students this year but will also be used by future Science Olympiad teams. I am really excited about offering this experience to my students. I already have an enthusiastic group of students ready to share their ideas. They are ready to learn, explore, and share their thoughts with their community, other schools, and each other. Most importantly they are ready to have fun through science inquiry.
