The students in my classroom come from low-income families. They are only asked to supply a backpack for school supplies due to the fact they are low income. Many of the children's families receive support whether it be from the government or their family members.
Many of these children come into my classroom wide-eyed at all of the toys and supplies they see.
In their homes, they do not have many toys. They may have to share the few toys they have with brothers and sisters or even cousins. They may come in never having seen scissors or crayons.
It is our job to provide learning opportunities that their parents are unable to provide their children due to lack of resources. We do the best we can with what we have!
My Project
As our classroom is currently, we have no science materials to help our children learn about things like magnetism or bugs. We are trying to build up our supplies of the science items to help them grow and decide if science might be something that they grow up to do. They will build with the magnets. They will experiment with other items deciding what types of materials are magnetic and which ones are not. They will use magnifying glasses to observe objects up closely so that they can describe items that they may not get to see every day (certain types of bugs that hide). We are trying to help our children get a well-rounded education.
