Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 60 fifth graders in the inner city. Together we are trying to overcome some pretty big challenges. Faced with poverty and violence, these kids come to school every day hungry to learn.

In today's public education environment, science is suffering as a result of an emphasis on reading and math scores. My kids are being asked to pass a state test with very little background knowledge or materials.

We need hands on materials to complete the experiments that make scientific questioning and exploration part of real life. My students need science activity kits to learn key concepts and to help us prepare for our Science Fair in the spring. They include materials for experiments, books, vocabulary cards, and everything else we will need to get Science in the City moving!

With your help, we can inspire these kids to be the next generation of great American scientists. Help me give them the tools they need to be successful in school and out in the very tough neighborhood where they live. There is no amount of help too small.
