Help me give my students test tubes of ingredients to do experiments at home!
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Gauci's classroom raised $503

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are energetic kids with a love of learning. Over 90% of my students come from low-socioeconomic families. A large percentage of them meet the definition of homeless. Their parents are struggling to pay rent and get food on the table. They are working necessary jobs for us and for their families. My kindergartners worry about their well being, and yet, they still want to explore, create, read, and write! They want to learn and grow.
During this pandemic, my students are sheltering in place with basic classroom supplies and necessities and a small number of books.
I want them to continue to be safe and stay healthy as they work hard to learn to read, learn to use technology, and at the same time, learn Language Arts, Math, and Science.
My Project
At this time, the Coronavirus has thrown us all for a loop. We have been teaching and learning from home. We have been communicating online, on the phone and six feet apart. School has been different for most of us and will be again in the Fall. Many scenarios have been floating around. One thing is for certain. We know that we will be doing some form of Distance Learning come August. At least part of the time, students will be learning from home.
Test tubes will help my students bring home necessary ingredients so that they can do science experiments at home.
I will prepare directions and test tubes with measured ingredients for students to take home to do projects with family members. Baking soda and vegetable glycerin and other ingredients will be carefully measured into the test tubes with screwed caps. I will explain and share the experiment (online or in class), and students will replicate it at home. Students will continue to learn in a safe environment. When my students return to school, we'll talk about what happened and why it happened. School does not have to end with a shortened day or shortened school week. Learning happens everywhere, especially at home! Thank you for considering my grant for your donation.
